A Dipartment of English Language and Literature(DELL) is well aware about the problems English Departments are facing.Students,passing out with M.A. or B.A (Hons) degrees in English,often discover that their proficiency in English is not up to the mark.Their mastery of the subject(English Literature)is also far below expectation.the students are disappointed,and so are their teachers,and the fretting persists.The employers also find it difficult to recruit capable English graduates.
The curriculum:
The syllabuses both B.A.(Hons) and M.A. are designed with incorporating substantial courses in remidial English and also several other courses to
upgrade the overall competence in language.These language courses are based on communicative approach,with a broad corpus taken from literature.The pedagogical approach at DELL is quite focused on providing the delight of learning language and understanding literature and carefully avoids the pitfall of making language courses dull and boring.
